You can use traditional dark colors to stay close to the historical appearance of the Model T, or experiment with brighter tones to create a unique and imaginative version of the car.

We created this collection of coloring pages inspired by the work of the first automotive designers and as a continuation of our very first tutorial on the site where we showed how to draw a Ford Model T.
How to Color a Ford Model-T
Historical Ford Model-T Colors
When choosing colors for your Ford Model T coloring pages, it’s interesting to know how these cars looked in real life.
In the early years of production (1908–1914), Ford offered the Model T in several colors, including gray, green, blue, and red.
However, starting in 1914 the company famously switched to producing almost all cars in black, because the specific black paint used at the time dried faster and allowed for quicker mass production.
The black versions typically had the entire body painted in a glossy black tone, while some details like the radiator surround and lamps could appear in brass or dark metal shades, depending on the year. The wheels were usually painted the same dark color as the body.
Accurate Colors
If you want a more historically accurate coloring, choose black for the body and wheels, with metallic accents for the lamps and radiator.
For earlier versions, you can try dark green, deep red, or blue for the body, keeping details like the headlights and trim in a brass shade.
More Unusual Tones
Of course, you can also experiment with your own variations. Using lighter tones, adding bright details to the wheels, or even giving the car a two-tone finish can create a more creative result while still respecting the vintage look of the Model T.
Make Your Antique Ford Look Dimensional
You can make the Model T drawings look more realistic by paying attention to how you use light and shadow.
Applying darker tones under the fenders, around the wheel arches, and beneath the car body will create the effect of realism.
Adding lighter highlights on the hood and roof will help show where the light naturally falls and give the vehicle a more three-dimensional appearance.
Combining these techniques allows you to achieve both realism and style. Careful shading will give your car volume, while authentic colors will make it look true to its era.
