How to Draw a Drag Car

For clarity of the drawing process, we decided to take an old muscle car from the middle of the 20th century.

Such cars are very often used for drag racing. But of course, using the stages from this instruction on how to draw a drag car, you can draw any other car for drag racing.

How to draw a drag car: step-by-step tutorial

Step 1 – Sketch the long car body with low roof

Draw a long and flat body of the drag car with very light and smooth lines. The hood should be very long and the roof very low.

Step 2 – Draw the car’s wheel arches

Depict the wheel arches and the lower edges of the front and rear bumpers with smooth and neat lines. The tops of the arches should point in different directions from the center.

Step 3 – Outline the greenhouse frame, door, and bumper

Depict a window frame using a long, smooth line. Carefully correct the outline of the drag car with darker lines. After that, draw the car door, a front bumper, and a small spoiler.

Step 4 – Draw the drag car wheels

Using very smooth lines depict the tires and perfectly round rims inside them. The top of the wheels should be hidden under the fenders.

Step 5 – Remove the guides and darken the contours

Get rid of all the auxiliary construction lines that were depicted by us in the first stages. Darken and sharpen your drawing with darker, crisper lines for a more voluminous and convincing look.

Step 6 – Draw the rim circles of the drag car

To correctly depict the pattern of the rims, first, depict the circles within the rims. Next, depict the spokes that diverge from the center to the edges.

Step 7 – Complete the drag car’s rim spokes

Next, carefully depict the rest of the rims using additional lines. In the center, you can add bolt nuts to make the rims more detailed.

Step 8 – Sketch underside lines, side trim, and door handle

Depict the bottom of the drag car inside the arches. Draw long decorative lines on the side of the body. Depict a rectangle handle in the upper right part of the door.

Step 9 – Finish the drag car drawing with shadows

To make the drag car drawing more voluminous and realistic, let’s add shadows. Start from the darkest areas and work your way up to the lighter ones. Do not forget to depict highlights on the windows.

You can further refine your drag car drawing by adding additional touches. Darken the necessary areas and make the transitions between light and shadow more contrast.
