In this art instruction, the team of Drawcarz will show you how to draw a cool truck using the example of Tesla Cybertruck from Elon Musk.

Why did we choose the image of Tesla Cybertruck for this instruction?

This is a big, stylish, armored truck that looks like it got off the pages of futuristic magazines of the 80s. What could be cooler?

How to draw a cool truck: step-by-step tutorial

Step 1 – Map the polygonal silhouette of your truck

Since this cool truck is the Tesla Cybertruck, use straight, angular lines instead of curves. Try to draw the silhouette without a ruler to practice line control. Keep the roofline flat and the body wedge-shaped, because this geometric proportion defines the truck’s futuristic style. Double-check the proportions of the front and rear.

Step 2 – Construct the trapezoidal greenhouse

Sketch the cabin area with straight lines, forming a trapezoid for the window frame. The windshield should slope back at a sharp angle. Lightly check that the windows align with the body’s top edges and perspective.

Step 3 – Draw the cool arches and bumpers of the truck

Outline the wheel arches with simple angular shapes rather than smooth curves. Add the lower contours of the front and rear bumpers, keeping them sharp and blocky. Use a couple of horizontal lines to show the rear bumper’s edge.

Step 4 – Indicate the sharp side creases

Add the distinctive body creases that give the truck its cool faceted look. Use straight strokes to draw the stiffening lines along the doors and side panels. Keep these lines parallel where needed and angled where the design breaks. Step back and check the symmetry between the left and right sides.

Step 5 – Sketch the polygonal doors and windows

Draw the B-pillar, then add straight verticals and horizontals for the doors. Inside the greenhouse, refine the window divisions with crisp lines. Make the doors large and simple, without unnecessary curves. To check accuracy, flip your drawing in a mirror and see if the proportions hold.

Step 6 – Clean the sketch and add circular wheels

Erase the construction lines carefully, leaving only the clean outline of the truck. Next, draw the wheels as perfect circles beneath the arches. Add inner rims to keep the vehicle accurate. To make the tuck look taller, you can sketch a modified suspension.

Step 7 – Draw the cool truck’s futuristic rim details

Inside each rim, draw a small central circle. From it, extend spokes outward using straight intersecting lines. Keep the spacing even so the rims look precise and accurate. But of course, you can draw different rim shapes to give the truck a unique cool appearance.

Step 8 – Create realistic shadows and highlights

Start shading the darkest areas and making the truck look really cool. Gradually transition to lighter halftones across the flat body planes. Add highlights on the windows and sharp edges to represent reflective surfaces. Keep the shading smooth so the flat panels look metallic. A cast shadow beneath the truck can make it look even cooler.
