How to Draw a Flatbed Truck

Earlier, we have repeatedly shown how to draw a truck, where everything related to this type of body was described in detail, and here we will concentrate our attention on how to draw a flatbed truck, a separate type of large truck.

American and European flatbed tracks are noticeably different, as are Japanese ones too. We will definitely tell you about these differences at the end of this guide.

This is a fairly simple tutorial, which is created in such a way that even the most novice artist can draw a very authentic and even a realistic flatbed truck.

Step 1 – Sketch the cab box with extended cargo platform

First of all, depict the basic outlines of the body using straight and light lines. Already at this stage, the cab and the cargo compartment are clearly visible.

Step 2 – Draw the flatbed truck arches and bumper

Now use a couple of long, curved lines to depict the wheel arches. In the same stage, depict the visible side of the front bumper.

Step 3 – Detail the cargo structure and fuel tank

Now, using straight and clear lines, depict the details at the bottom of the cargo part. In the same stage, depict the gas tank between the front and rear arches.

Step 4 – Add the cab windows and headlight

Using straight lines, depict a window, the upper part of which repeats the outlines of the front and upper part of the cabin. In the same stage, depict the headlight and the visible part of the windshield.

Now, using clear straight lines, depict the door around the side window. Next, below this very side window, depict a door handle.

Step 6 – Add the wheels with inner rim shapes

Use simple lines to depict the wheels, which should be perfectly round. After that, depict equally perfectly round rims inside the wheels.

Step 7 – Detail the flatbed truck cab and cargo

In the front middle part of the body, depict a vertically elongated rear-view mirror. After that depict a small rectangular turn signal at the bottom of the cab.

Step 8 – Customize the truck rims

Depict small circles in the center of the rims. Around these circles, depict circles of the smaller sizes at equal distance from each other.

Step 9 – Apply shading to the vehicle body details

Add shadows to make the flatbed truck look more dimensional and convincing. Start with darker areas and gradually work towards lighter ones. Do not forget to depict highlights on the glass parts.
